Mounting / Laminating

The finishing of the print consists of mounting, lamination and framing.

A mounted image stands the test of time and stays straight.

From our extensive selection, you're sure to find the perfect mounting board — whether your artwork is destined for a home hallway, a gallery, or even an outdoor display.

What does mounting mean?

Mounting means glueing an image to a board using PH-neutral film or silicone.

Archival mounting is a process of mounting a print or photograph to a material that will not degrade over time and where the print will not suffer degradation due to the mounting process.

We use a PH Neutral adhesive mount film, making it compatible with sensitive FineArt papers.

Materials such as MDF contain acids and by-products that will break down over time. Dibond, aluminium and Silisec® are fully archival.

For home use Silisec® and Dibond-mounted prints are a great choice.

What does laminating mean and do i need it?

Laminate is a protective film that is applied to your print, helping to minimise damage to your print from scratching, UV rays and fingerprints.

Lamination preserves the colors of your print and makes it possible to wipe out fingerprints and splashes. That’s why it can be a good choice for posters, navigational charts, touring exhibitions, public places and kid’s rooms.

Our laminate choices are matt, matt-satin, glossy, highgloss and floorlaminate.

Mounting

We can mount your artwork on almost any board as long as it meets the following criteria:

  • The surfaces must be even so that the adhesive adheres and the pressure is evenly distributed.

  • The surfaces must be free of grease, lint-free and dust-free.

  • Maximum width in boards 150 cm

  • Maximum thickness 5 cm

Dibond® 2/3 mm

A lightweight alternative to aluminium, Dibond is perfect for archival framing.

When weight is an issue because of framing or transportation 2 mm Dibond is a great choice.

Weighing less than half that of aluminium, this material is composed of a dark plastic core with a thin layer of aluminium coat on each side.

This archival mounting solution is perfect for very large pieces and touring exhibitions.

Aluminium offers a smooth surface onto which we can mount a wide range of papers.

Aluminium mounting is widely popular due to the archival quality of the material

Silisec®

Silisec® is a process used for face mounting photographs on acrylic glass.

Because the print is ”glued” to the acrylic glass, the result is a completely flat mount of the image.

The whole process is dedicated to mounting the print without air bubbles or smears.

All Silisec® prints are equipped with an aluminium back-frame that allows the work to be hanged. The frame is hidden and leaves the picture floating on the wall.

LAMINATING

Laminate is a protective film that is applied to your print, helping to minimise damage to your print from scratching, UV rays and fingerprints.

Lamination preserves the colors of your print and makes it possible to wipe out fingerprints and splashes. That’s why it can be a good choice for posters, navigational charts, touring exhibitions, public places and kid’s rooms.

Laminating prints used to be standard in a gallery exhibition, allowing the print to be carefully cleaned with a damp, lint free cloth. This however has changed in the last couple of years, with galleries and artists realising there are both pros and cons to having your print sealed. We offer different kind of laminates, but don't necessarily recommend them.

Our laminate choices are matt, matt-satin (semi-matt), glossy, highgloss, floorlaminate, antigraffitilaminate and glitter.

Maximum widths:

  • Matt/glossy 150 cm

  • Matt-satin (semi-matt) 150 cm

  • Floorlaminate 135 cm

  • Two-sided/pocket laminate 150 cm
